Prepared by the 22 volunteers on the Education Report Card Committee, the report overviews the 2006-2007 school year, focusing on the areas of school system performance, public support and advocacy for MNPS, and individual school accountability. View the full report. () Chamber seeks members who support pre-K expansion This year, Gov. Bredesen has asked the Tennessee General Assembly to approve an additional $25 million to continue the expansion of Tennessee's voluntary, high-quality pre-kindergarten program for 4-year-olds. If approved, the state will be able to add 245 additional pre-K classrooms in the 2008-2009 school year. Making sure all kindergarteners enter school ready to learn is an important strategy in ensuring success for Metro Schools. A wide spectrum of both public and private K-12 education opportunities provides families with many choices in the Nashville area. In addition to the various county public school systems in the MSA, there are three city school systems that serve students through grade six. These are located in Lebanon, Murfreesboro and Franklin. Nashville also has a long tradition of private education, providing choices that accommodate individual religious beliefs and different preferences for educational methods and approaches. The Chamber works closely with Metro Nashville Public Schools to develop initiatives geared toward helping students succeed. The overarching mission of the Chamber's education department is to help ensure 100 percent success for all Metro public school students.
