From recruiting and retaining talent, to collaborating to find innovative workforce solutions, to programs that help hone the skills of Nashville-area human resources professionals, the Chamber's workforce department is dedicated to strengthening the Nashville-area workforce.

Cool School -- The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce's popular "Cool School" program is held twice a year. Nashville has been ranked as Kiplinger Magazine's #1 Smart City. Today's top talents are looking for cool places to live and work. This program provides a "toolbox" of resources to train employers and others on ways to leverage Nashville as a "cool community" to recruit, engage and retain young professionals in their companies and in the community.

InternNashville -- The Chamber understands that having a skilled workforce is important to your business. One specific area we are focusing on is the value of internships and their effect on increasing the skilled workforce in the Nashville area. InternNashville is a multifaceted program designed to aid employers, students and faculty. This program is being launched throughout 2008 and will include a variety of elements.

NashvilleJobsLink.com -- The Chamber provides employers with a powerful online recruiting tool at www.nashvillejobslink.com. JobsLink is the Chamber's nationally marketed community job posting board to connect Nashville-area employers with job seekers. More than 60,000 job seekers use the site each month, and employers are able to post jobs, view resumes, and post internships and career fairs. For more information on posting jobs on JobsLink, please contact the Chamber's workforce development department at 615-743-3051. Companies who relocate or expand new operations in the region may be eligible for a trial subscription to support their recruitment of talent to staff operations.

Nashville Area College to Career Fair -- The workforce development department partners with the Nashville Area Career Fair Consortium, joining 16 area universities in welcoming bachelor's and master's degree candidates, MBA graduates, and alumni to two recruiting events. With a 15-year history, this career fair has a proven record of success in providing well-qualified candidates for the hiring needs of Nashville-area employers. This career fair is not open to general job seekers, but is open to any students or alumni from the consortium participants. Click here to view the flyer for the upcoming fair on February 10, 2009, including a list of participating schools.

Worker Recruitment -- The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce is coordinating out-of-area marketing and public relations by mailing information on job opportunities to more than 250 colleges and universities. An interactive CD-ROM is also available to showcase why the Nashville region is a great place to "Work Hard, Play Hard, Live Well and Grow Well." Every year, more than 17,000 students graduate with two- to four-year degrees from Nashville-area colleges. Some 60 percent of the region's graduates find employment and stay in the area. We are actively working to link a greater percentage of our graduates with area employers. Click here to order your free copy of our interactive CD-ROM.

2008 Workforce Study -- The Chamber partnered with the Nashville Career Advancement Center and the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development to release the results of a comprehensive study of Middle Tennessee's workforce characteristics and conditions. The first-ever endeavor examines workforce supply and demand situations through 2017; occupational, education and skill matches with area programs in higher education; career pathways data; and changing dynamics of jobs and industry sectors. Executive highlights, the more detailed executive summary and the full report with appendices are downloadable here.

HR Building Blocks Workshops -- This four-part annual series highlights topics for human resources professionals and small business owners. Each program focuses on a specific issue of importance to improving human resources practices and Nashville-area businesses.

HR Excellence Awards -- The Chamber partners with the Middle Tennessee Society for Human Resource Management to support the HR Excellence Awards program. The program was designed in 2002 to recognize quality human resources policies and practices in Nashville-area organizations. The awards criteria, which include HR management practices; employee education, training and development; employee well-being and satisfaction; HR strategy; and measurement of HR function and HR organizational level performance, are based on the HR portions of the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence Awards and Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Awards programs.

Young Professional Initiatives -- The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with other Nashville young professional groups, including the Nashville Area Junior Chamber of Commerce, Nashville Emerging Leaders, Society of Leaders in Development (SOLID), Young Leaders Council and Urban League Young Professionals, to form the 20/20 Leadership Alliance.
